Advocating for Healthier Indoor Spaces
About Us
About Step Beyond Green to Healthy
Step Beyond Green to Healthy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier indoor environments where people can truly thrive.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to educate, empower, and inspire healthier choices in the spaces where we live, work, and play.
We achieve this through two key initiatives:
1. Educating Contractors
We train contractors, builders, and industry professionals on health-focused building practices and products designed to meet the unique needs of every client. Because no two people are alike, we teach contractors to ask the right questions, select safer materials, and adopt proven methods that prioritize healthy indoor air quality and wellness-focused construction, helping them build stronger relationships and healthier homes.
2. Empowering the Public
We help homeowners and individuals identify hidden environmental factors that may be affecting their health, often without their knowledge. From improving indoor air quality to reducing toxic exposures, we provide practical, science-backed solutions that make homes safer, cleaner, and better for the people who live in them.

Our Story
It all began in 2011, in a small coffee shop, with one powerful question: “Can you build a truly healthy home for me and my son?" At the time, we didn’t fully understand what that meant but that single conversation sparked a journey of research and education.
The mother and her young son were living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), a condition that makes it impossible to live or work in spaces filled with toxic VOCs (volatile organic compounds). She had spent years searching for professionals who would listen, understand her unique needs, and build a home that would allow her family to breathe, live, and thrive.
That meeting changed everything. It planted the seed for what would eventually grow into Step Beyond Green to Healthy. After eight years of learning, testing, and refining best practices, we’re proud to say we delivered. And today, we continue that mission: helping families create healthier homes and safer indoor environments.
